Punchcard device will put black "holes" needles in middle position and white squares in working position. Color 1 will knit the white squares (needles in working position) and Color 2 will knit the black holes (Working position)
Depending on the design and the number of rows involved, some fairisle cards can be knit in Slip
Slip Stitch
Mostly black (holes)
Limited number of consecutive white rows
Punchcard device will put black "holes" needles in middle position and white squares in working position.
With the carriage set to "slip" the needles in working position will slip (or skip) and the needles in middle position will knit.
NOTE. Too many white rows will carry the slipped stitches too far. 2 - 4 consecutive rows are common.
Tuck Stitch
Mostly black (holes)
Limited number of consecutive white rows
No more than 1 white stitch per column
Punchcard device will put black "holes" needles in middle position and white squares in working position.
With the carriage set to "tuck" the needles in working position will tuck and the needles in middle position will knit.
NOTE. Too many white rows will carry the tucked stitches too far. 1 - 4 consecutive tuck rows are common.
No 2 white squares can be next to each other. Except for certain conditions, tucking ONLY occurs over 1 needle at a time.
