I think it is for dropping stitches from one bed. In stead off moving the needles by hand far out and back in order to drop stitches, you can easily drop all stitches by sliding over the needles with this thing. Just another ribber gadges😉

Elspa is right - Brother calls this the "D" slider - it drops stitches for a drop stitch pattern. Full needle rib - stitches dropped on the main bed.
Looks interesting ... Instructions start on Page 68 of the Brother 260 manual.
Just found a similar device for my Singer/Silver 860 (mid-gauge) ribber - The manual calls this a "needle aligner" and the resulting knitting "Drive Lace". It appears to work on both the ribber and the main bed .... So many fun techniques ... So little time!

Thanks for this great info. Mystery solved! And in fact, I found another "D" slider among the accessories for my new-to-me SK 840's ribber attachment.
