Yoohoo! My machine is up and running again, and better than ever since I have her. My ribber adjustment was definitely worth it.

I am really happy with that, and to celebrate I wanted to do a 1x1 ribbed scarf in two row stripes (2 colorways of self colouring yarn). But then, at the first color change, I realized that this is not possible - how to keep the old color out of the way of the carriage?

So my question is: is it possible to do stripes on the ribber?

I saw this video:

But I was hoping it would be as easy as changing colors on the KM without a ribber?

Hi Aranka!

The magic words here - "Free Pass"

Let's say you are using color A and Color B
  1. Start your ribbing with color A and end with your carriage on the right
  2. Set both carriages to slip
  3. Remove Color A from the feeder
  4. Free pass to the left.
  5. Thread up Color B
  6. Cancel Slip
  7. Knit as many rows as you like, ending on the left
  8. Free pass to the right
  9. Thread up color A and knit as many rows as you like.
  10. End with the carriage on the right
  11. Free pass back

These 2 tutorials talk about free pass on the single bed, but the idea is the same with the ribber
