I'm knitting very soft cotton to make many chemo hats, WITHOUT an irritating seam ridge.  Does anyone know a technique to get a smooth flat seam so I can knit these on the machine?  Currently hand knitting them all. Would love to use my knitting machine, but don't want the mattress stitch seam.

Barbara, I just used Bickford seams (for the very first time) on a pair of socks and they were nice and flat and comfortable.  I didn't find this seam quite as easy to do as mattress stitch, but not too difficult, really.
