Annie asked: How do I prevent the end needles from slipping or tucking when knitting in pattern?
This is called "end needle selection"
Some Brother machines have a setting (KC I and KC II) that prevents the end needle from being selected (for example no tuck on the edge stitch)
Because Brother machines pre-select needles, you can also manually position the end needles so they don't select (tuck)
• My Singer 360 punchcard recommends pushing the end needles to D position to prevent them from patterning
• My Silver 860 electronic has point cams to prevent the edge stitches from selecting.

Different machines, various schemes ...
