Our club in Malvern UK has an annual Xmas session where I have organised a small quiz or some word searches. This year I am completely out of ideas. Can anyone help me please........?

How about a few rounds of Just A Minute where the participants have to speak for 1 minute without hesitation, deviation or repetition?  You could set various topics related to machine knitting.
