I have some tweedy worsted weight wool. I love the color. It still has lanolin. I want to make a rectangular poncho with a hood on my Brother KH-230 and would like to have a little bit of patterning or embellishment, but the yarn has absolutely no stretch to it and I have been struggling to do anything beyond stockinette. My tension is not too tight. My idea was a cable along the open sides. I found it is very hard to manipulate a 3X3 cable, even when I drop a stitch on either side of it. I think a 2X2 cable would be too small for a garment of this size. Maybe two cables on either edge? I could try a tuck stitch overall and need to do some experimenting but do any of you have experience with wool like this?

Hi Becky,

If you hand knit, what about hand knitting a nice, complicated cable "panel" and attach it to the stockinette panel?

In my humble opinion, sometimes we just have to accept that the yarn isn't going to work on the machine. ðŸ˜Ÿ

That's an excellent idea. Thanks!
