Bind off | Cast Off Back
Skill Builder Exercises
The Goal of this Challenge
Hi ,
Don't skip these exercises
When we are done knitting a piece, we have to secure our knitting stitches. Yes, we can remove the yarn from the yarn feeder and drop the work from the machine (on purpose or by accident ). But this leaves open stitches that will easily unravel.Choosing a bind off (cast off) method is not only a personal choice, but it depends on how you are going to finish the knitting.
- Is the edge going to be seamed? Scrapped Off or "live" stitches may be best
- Is the edge going to be finished? For example, binding off for a neck edge that will have a band
- Is the edge going to be unfinished / decorative? Employ a decorative bind off (plain rolled edge)
- Does the edge need to be stretchy? Toe up sock needs a stretchy edge at the top of the cuff
- Stitch-Thru-Stitch
- Round the Gatepeg
- Picot Bind Off
Try as many bind off methods as you can. Different methods are appropriate for different situations.
