Perfect Joins
When working intarsia, the challenge is keeping the edges of the adjoining colors uniform and neat.
Here are 3 methods for you to try:
- Twist the working yarns
Just like in hand knitting, Any time 2 working yarns are next to each other, twist the yarns to prevent a hole.
- Wrap the working yarns
Similar to wrapping when working short rows, wrap the working yarn around the held needle next to it. You can see this demonstrated in the video in the section "What is Intarsia? The Mechanics"
- Carry a separate "binding" yarn up the join
Before you start knitting, reserve a strand of the main color yarn. At the join of 2 colors, lay the binding yarn across the end needles of the adjoining sections. Zig Zag this yarn back and forth "binding" the edges as you knit. Some knitters will e-wrap this binding yarn. Others will use a binding yarn IN ADDITION to another method.
