Line drawing of Christmas stockings. The tree and snowflake are decorative, not stitch charts.

Christmas Stocking Pattern Builder

One Christmas stocking, in your yarn and your gauge

Create one machine-knit stocking from finished leg length, foot circumference, and foot length. Knit it cuff down or toe up. The builder calculates the short-row heel and toe.

What you choose

  • Finished size

Pick Mini through Extra Large. Leg length runs from the top edge to the start of the heel and includes the top edging. Foot circumference and leg circumference are the same.

  • Cuff down or Toe up

Choose the knitting order. Both directions finish to the same measurements.

  • Your stitch and row gauge

Enter the gauge from your swatch over 4 inches / 10 cm. Heel and toe are plain knitting. Stitch patterns on the leg and foot are up to you.

What the builder creates

Members receive instructions for one stocking: stitch and row counts, a short-row heel, a short-row toe, and finishing. There is no second stocking.

The top edge — ribbing, a rolled edge, or another finish — is worked inside the leg length. An optional hanging loop can be an i-cord or twisted cord in a length you choose.

Any yarn. Any machine.

This is not a pattern written for one knitting machine. Enter the gauge you achieved with your yarn and machine, and the builder calculates one stocking.
