Exercise #1 - plain knitting
- No yarn in the carriage
- Pull 20 needles to "D" Position
- Carriage Set for Plain Knitting (BOTH side levers and Russel Levers|| are dis-engaged)
- Push carriage from right to left. What Happens?
- Push carriage from left to right. What Happens?
Needles in "D" (hold)
The needles are returned to working position. Even though the needles were in hold, the Carriage levers were dis-engaged (not set).
Exercise #2 - Engage Side Levers
- No yarn in the carriage
- Pull 20 needles to "D" Position
- Both Side Levers are engaged
- Push carriage from right to left. What Happens?
- Push carriage from left to right. What Happens?
needles in "D" (hold)
Needles are moved to "B" (working position)
Needles remain in "B" position
Exercise #3 - Slip Individual needles - The basis of patterning
- No yarn in the carriage
- Position 20 needles in "B" Position
- Using the 1x1 needle pusher, push every other needle to "D" position
- Set the BOTH Side Levers
- Push carriage from right to left. What Happens to the needles in D position?
- Push carriage from left to Right. Does anything change?
Both Side Levers engaged
The needles in "D" are moved to "B"
Needles in "B" (working) position remain in "B"
Exercise #4 - Slip groups of needles - The basis of Slip
- No yarn in the carriage
- Position 20 needles in "B" Position
- Pull sets of 3 needles to "D" position
- Disengage the LEFT Side Lever
- Engage the RIGHT Side Lever
- Push carriage from right to left. What Happens to the needles in D position?
- Pull sets of 3 needles to "D" position
- Push carriage from left to Right. What Happens?
